Lucas & Kathryn’s Wedding at Knepp Castle Estate in Sussex was one of the most wonderfully creative and fun weddings I’ve ever had the privilege of being part of. The girls got ready at Withyfields Cottage near Horsham. I thought that nine girls getting ready at the same time might be a bit crazy (!!) but everyone was so friendly and welcoming to me and just went about getting ready with big smiles on their faces! Kathryn was serenaded to by three of her Bridesmaids who would sing later during the ceremony. The ceremony was at St Peters Church in Brighton which I’d seen lots driving past but never been into. It’s beautiful- it’s got the height of a Cathedral but it felt down to earth and informal inside as Lucas greeted family and friends. I loved it when Kathryn was walked down the aisle by her Dad and Lucas was wiping tears from his eyes as he saw his Bride. The best bit of the ceremony was when the signing of the register was finished and the Bridesmaids started singing the gospel song “Your Love is Lifting me Higher”. Everyone stood to their feet, started clapping along and Lucas and Kathryn paraded back down the aisle and Lucas was punching the air with delight. The most epic end to a ceremony I’ve seen! We then went onto Knepp Castle Estate where a marquee had been set up next to a lake with a forrest surrounding the clearing. It was beautiful, like something out of a film. This really was a DIY wedding as all the decorations on the tables, the lights and even some of the food were made by family and friends. Kathryn’s Dad even sourced a rowing boat for the afternoon. Lucas and Kathryn had a row around the lake and as I was taking pictures I couldn’t stop smiling- such a stunning setting and such a happy couple out on the water! I even clambered onboard (very carefully- I didn’t want to topple the Bride!) for some of the journey. The creativity didn’t stop there though. In the evening after the first dance came a choreographed Groomsmen dance complete with cowboy hats, moustaches and sparkly confetti all set to a medley of songs. The dance floor kicked off after this and it was hard to tear myself away from it all! This wedding was a dream to photograph! Lucas and Kathryn were so lovely to work for an the atmosphere at this wedding was one of the best I’ve ever experienced! I hope you enjoy browsing through my favourite images beneath!
Lucas wrote me this amazing review:
“Wow Olly! 10/10. We are so impressed with the pictures he took for us and absolutely loved spending time with him. The moment we made contact with Olly, we knew he was going to be professional, easy-going and a pleasure to be around. Olly is an incredibly talented photographer, evident in all the images he took on our big day. He is, unlike anyone else, able to capture the atmosphere of the day and a whole spectrum of emotion in his photos. He is particularly attentive to light, people’s responses, and capturing those special moments between friends and family members.
We met Olly for our engagement shoot at his home, where he talked through almost every detail we might like to know or ask him about. He is thorough and very organised, despite being a busy man! It was lovely to get to know him during the shoot, and to get comfortable around him (which was very easy it turned out!). His relaxed, warm and chatty style works perfectly as he photographs. He lets you be you.
On the run up to the day, he stayed in touch and we felt he was genuinely excited for us! Olly was able to seamlessly, and unobtrusively capture the bride/bridesmaids getting ready for the day. He sat with guests and was so friendly with all on our day, but was also on the ball and ready to capture the most important moments of the wedding! We LOVED receiving our little wooden flash drive on returning from our honeymoon, with a HUGE selection of photos (colour & b/w) and a little video montage of Olly’s favourite moments.
We are so incredibly happy we invited him to join us on our special day, to capture it and be excited with us in it.
We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Olly. Couldn’t have chosen anyone better.
Thanks so much Olly.
Kathryn & Lucas”
