Here’s my Best of 2024! It’s really enjoyable putting these collections together as I get to look back over the last 12 months and do something I regularly ask my kids to do- be grateful for what you’ve experienced. You all know this is my dream job and I want to say a huge thanks to the 25 couples that have trusted me to document their wedding days with no posing, just capturing real authentic moments.
For trips overseas a huge highlight for me this year was spending a week in the French Alps with my family in May and my Son Caleb (11 at the time) getting to photograph his first wedding there with me (my first wedding was in Folkestone!) I was able to return to Borgo la Tragliata in Rome twice, I got to go back to Chateau de Lerse in July (Daniel & Debra planned their destination wedding in only a couple of months!?) I was looked after by an amazing family for a wedding in Brittany (they watched England vs Spain with me… sigh…) and I spent 5 amazing days in Lindos, Rhodes too with Richard, Billie, Tom and many cats.
UK wedding highlights included a weekend of games and activities (laser tag anyone!?) for James & Sav’s wedding at Bovey Castle, Jeannette finally getting her book token she was promised over 20 years ago thanks to one of the wedding photos I took, Ryan making me cry during his speech and a wedding so close to my house that I could literally climb over my garden fence to get there!
I really pushed myself creatively this year to not stay safe when it comes to compositions. I tried to increase my apertures lots so I could get more of the scene in focus and play with layering and busy environments. I’m so happy that it’s paid off this year with one such image from Jack & Daisy’s wedding winning a Fearless Award.
Personally for me 2024 has been my favourite year yet. I turned 40 so that was a HUGE milestone. I got to skydive, visit Dubrovnik, the Algarve and the Isle of Mull (for wildlife photography). My Son Caleb started secondary school and seems to be really enjoying it. I won Best Photographer for the South East again at The Wedding Industry Awards (national finals in Jan). I launched FramED (a photography education business) with my friends James and Ollie and in the last few weeks we’ve started a podcast too. Mentoring Stan, Charlotte and Becci has been a complete joy this year and I’m excited to carry on doing that with them next year and welcoming Jack to the team.
Speaking of next year I’m nearly fully booked for weddings (just 4 spaces left) and I’m excited to be photographing my first weddings in Spain and Scotland. I’m going back to the South of France a couple of times and back to Italy twice as well. Thanks for looking at these images and for your support and encouragement. Every image you see is how it happened, no intervention from me! Documentary photography wins every time!
